For Starters
If you’re an internet-savvy person, you might have seen the term “OpenID”. Most of the time, you’ll see it near a login form of a website with something like “Login with OpenID” . So what is OpenID? Here’s a quick excerpt from Wikipedia:
OpenID is a shared identity service, which allows Internet users to log on to many different web sites using a single digital identity, eliminating the need for a different user name and password for each site. OpenID is a decentralized, free and open standard that lets users control the amount of personal information they provide.

What Does It Look Like?
For simplicity sake, your OpenID will be something like username.openidprovider.com. It’s in a URI format which depends on your OpenID provider.
Provider?
To get your own OpenID, you need to find an OpenID provider. Luckily, some popular websites like Yahoo! and Blogger can help you get started if you already use their services. For more provider options, check out this list by the OpenID wiki.
